we're pretty crazy when it comes to money
This page is our experiment in Radical Financial Transparency – an honest, evolving picture of how we live, what we earn, and where our resources flow.
In the world today, there are trillions of dollars/yuan/pesos/rupiah/etc. in circulation, mostly in digital form that can be transferred between accounts instantly. With just eight billion people on the planet, that means there is more than enough for everyone. The mainstream discourse around work and economics is always focused on scarcity ("How do we create more jobs?; more profit?; more growth?!"; "How do I save more?; earn more?; have more?!"), but the truth is that we already live in abundance: there is plentiful money, food, education, shelter, and creative opportunity for everyone.
What we have is a distribution problem (not a population problem). We are not sharing resources around properly. Go to any schoolyard or home with multiple siblings and you will likely see: sharing and trusting each other is a difficulty we humans face from very young. This is a moral test that we need to overcome: the collapse of civilisation is on the horizon; our inability to share – be it money, land, or kindness – has become an existential threat. So what will we do? What can we do?
There is an old Aristotelian saying, "Nature abhors a vacuum", meaning that if ever an ecosystem has a deficit, the intelligence of the entire organism will coordinate to support. Human society could work this way too (and probably once did). The first thing we need to make such coordination possible, is to outline very clearly: Where Are The Deficits? Who is rich? Who is poor? Who has excess resources? Who has not enough resources?
It is in this vein of thinking that we, sage Raharjo-Gunawan Zhou-Lin, have decided to swear by the practice of Radical Financial Transparency.
As a Libran-Aquarian idealist, we hold so, so dear to our heart, the possibility of a just world, free of corruption, greed, and cruel oppression based on monetary haves and have-nots. we believe the human world could be so much more beautiful; our sociopolitical and economic systems so much more supportive; so much more fair.
we hope you will join us in making your financial life a little more transparent too. Together, we can create a culture where resources flow intelligently to where they're needed most.
Be brave. Life is too short and precious to play half-hearted.
